Før første brug af skiene, skal bindingerne først indstilles af en professionel eller af en specialiseret sportsbutiksassistent. Skiene skal indstilles efter alder, køn, vægt, skistøvlestørrelse og skiløberens erfaringsniveau. Skiløberen udsætter sig selv for stor risiko for at komme til skade, hvis ikke skiene er indstillede og kontrolleret med en maskine til skiservice.
